FAQ for Product Management

1. FAQ about Product Listings

1.1 Common reasons for product delisting

To ensure a good shopping experience for consumers, the Jumia content team regularly inspects product content on the front end. If any product is found to violate the listing rules, it will be immediately removed from the shelves.

  • The title content does not match the pictures
  • Wrong category (for detailed category selection guidelines, please check here)
  • Wrong brand selection (for detailed brand selection guidelines, please refer to the Brand Creation and Usage Guideline)
  • Products suspected of being counterfeit, shoddy, or infringing (for relevant platform policies, please check here)
  • Prohibited items (prohibited for sale or shipment) (for relevant platform policies, please check here)
  • High return rate due to quality reasons (>5%)
  • Suspicious prices (too low or too high)
  • Pornographic or indecent products using inappropriate categories (for detailed category requirements, please check the following “Category Selection for Pornographic and Indecent Products”)

1.2 How to handle content QC failure due to variable errors?

  • If the Shop SKU is not generated, the Variation can be modified (for details, please refer here), and QC will be re-triggered after saving.
  • If the Shop SKU has been generated, the Variation cannot be modified. It is recommended to delete the product (update status to Delete) or take it off the shelves (update status to Inactive).

1.3 Brand restrictions and authorization

To sell branded products on Jumia, you must have brand authorization in the country where the selling site is located. The specific conditions are as follows:

  • You are the owner or manufacturer of the brand or intellectual property.
  • You are the sole authorized distributor of the brand and its products in the local area.
  • You have exclusive rights to display, sell, and distribute the brand online.
  • You possess and can provide documents, receipts, or proof of purchase for Jumia-prohibited/restricted brand products purchased from authorized distributors (click here to view the list of all prohibited and restricted brands on Jumia). To create a brand, you need to click here to apply for brand creation. Requirements for applying for brand restrictions/brand licenses:
    • Brand name registration certificate (not the company name).
    • Trademark or intellectual property registration.
    • Documents, receipts, and proof of purchase from the manufacturer/exclusive or main distributor.
    • A license/authorization letter from the manufacturer/exclusive or main distributor granting exclusive distribution rights to the supplier.

1.4 Merge Product Links (Product Group Listing)

To ensure the shopping environment and customer experience, identical products (with the same product name, brand, model, color, pattern, size, specifications, and other attributes) will be merged into the same purchase link.

  • Among all products merged into the same purchase link, the SKU with the lowest price can win the Buy Box and become the main SKU of this merged product link.
  • Only the main SKU can be searched by customers; the remaining SKUs cannot be displayed in searches and can only be viewed by accessing from the main SKU’s product page.
  • Cases where links will not be merged include:
    • Products in promotional activities
    • Products from Jumia official stores

1.5 Requirements for category selection and images of pornographic and indecent products

  • All products with exposed private parts, sexually suggestive or adult-level images must be categorized under “Health & Beauty >> Sexual Wellness” related categories.
  • If such images expose genitalia or private parts, stickers should be used in these areas with the indication “18+” (as shown in the example below).

  • Products in the category of erotic lingerie generally refer to sheer underwear that exposes private parts, usually with mesh and sheer designs (such as the following examples), and should use the following category: Health & Beauty >> Sexual Wellness >> Fetish Wear.

1.6 What to do if the product is not online

Check the Product Status Introduction to confirm the reason for being offline. If it is rejected by QC, update the product. If the status under Visible is Live but the product is not online on the front end, update the SKU status through the form to make it go online again.

1.7 How to check the store and online products on the front end after the product is launched?

1.7.1 Seller’s store front-end URL

For example, the Nigeria site: https://jumia.com.ng/store name (Note: The URL is only available if the store already has online SKUs)

1.7.2 Check online products on the front end

Method 1: View Visible and access the QC Live product. As shown in the image below, you can click the “See the Product on Jumia” button to go to the front-end product link.

Method 2: Click “Active” to quickly obtain the Jumia SKU. Copy the corresponding site’s SKU to the corresponding site’s front-end search box to directly find the product’s online link.

2. FAQ about Product Management

2.1 What does “User does not have the necessary permissions” means?

It indicates that the user does not have the permission to edit this function. In this case, please find and modify the permission through the following path: Settings > users > manage user > click the Action button

2.2 Where can I check the “Content Score” product score?

This function is under development.

2.3 Why does deletea product fail and display “could not be updated on any of the selected countries.”?

Mainly because the product to be deleted was not successfully created. In this case, sellers can ignore these products that failed to be deleted.

2.4 Why can’t the content of some products be modified?

If a product was migrated from SC and was created in SC a long time ago, its content cannot be modified. Only the price and inventory of such products can be modified. Note: Product inventory in FBJ accounts is updated by Jumia warehouse staff. Sellers do not have permission to modify overseas warehouse inventory.

2.5 Why can’t I modify the price/inventory/status of some products?

If the brand/category/store is not activated or the product is deemed a prohibited item, updates cannot be made. In such cases, sellers can update the product content and go through the QC process again.

2.6 Why does modifying inventory fail and display “product is not created in any country”?

The product has not passed QC or its status has not been updated. You can click the “Visible” button for more information.

2.7 When updating prices, what format should the effective/end time be in?

The date format is: YYYY-MM-DD hh24:mm (for example: 2023-11-11 00:00), and set the cell format of this column to “Text”.

  • Effective time: The effective time of the product price, which needs to be a future time.
  • End time: The end time of the product price, which must be later than the effective time.

2.8 When updating the price, the following error occurs: Price Update column [Product_SID] has an invalid value?

Because an incorrect format was used when opening the price update template. The [Product_SID] column only needs to be filled with the product’s SID.

The downloaded CSV format template should use (,) separated tables instead of (;) separated tables.

2.9 How to delete products pending review or failed to create?

Only successfully created products can be deleted; products in the pending review status cannot be deleted temporarily. Please refer to here for specific operation steps.

2.10 How to export products that failed QC?

Please follow the path below:

Vendor Center >> Import/Export >> Select an action >> Type: Product >> Action: Export Product >> Choose Shop >> Apply filters >> Status: Rejected in at least one country >> Choose Category Type >> Export

  • If bulk price update fails, please see here for details.

2.12 How to integrate color variables into a single link on the JUMIA platform?

JUMIA does not currently support using color as a variable. Please note: Using color as a variable will cause Content Quality Control (QC) to fail.

2.13 My SKU is already showing as Active and Visible, but it’s not displayed on the front end. What should I do?

In the backend, use “edit product,” slightly modify the SKU information, and re-trigger QC. The SKU will appear on the front end within one day after QC approval.

2.14 Can sellers change product inventory in their overseas warehouse (FBJ) accounts themselves?

FBJ account product inventory is updated by Jumia warehouse staff. Sellers do not have permission to modify overseas warehouse inventory.

3. FAQ about Product Creation

This indicates that the category has not been activated yet. Sellers can click “here” to activate the category.

3.2 Why can’t I download the template for creating a product?

When the store is activated, the system has automatically assigned full management rights of the store to your registered email address. If the registered account or related User cannot download the template, please first confirm whether the permission of “VC – Product Manager” is enabled. The operation is as follows:

VC >> Settings >> Click the assign access icon >> Check if there is the permission of “Product manager”

Product review is mainly divided into automatic review and system review.

Products undergoing system review can get the review result on the same day, while those undergoing manual review usually take 1-3 days.

3.5 What is the reason why a product passes the review but fails to be created?

After a product passes the review, it needs to meet the following conditions to be synchronously created on each site. If any of the conditions are not met, please make modifications.

  • The product category exists on the site (Active)
  • The seller’s store exists on the site

No, sellers should use different seller SKUs. A difference only in case will result in failure to pass the review.

3.9 What does “Restriction compliant” mean?

It means that restricted vocabulary was used when creating the product. In this case, the seller should modify it according to the system and resubmit.

3.10 Why is my product stuck in the “Pending QC” status?

It may be a problem with system update delays. In this case, the seller can modify the product content and re-trigger QC to pass the review.

3.11 What does “Not ready for QC” mean when creating a product?

It indicates that the product is still being created. In this case, the seller should wait patiently for 1-2 days. If the product still fails to pass the review after that, please submit a customer complaint RAC consultation.
