JUMIA Prohibited Items Compliance Guidelines

Dear Sellers,

We are updating our prohibited items policy to ensure continued compliance with national regulations and to maintain a safe, secure shopping environment for all our users. Please review these updates to ensure your future listings remain fully compliant.

 1. Key Points of the Prohibited Items Policy

Prohibited items are products that are forbidden for sale on specific sites. Due to variations in religious beliefs and national policies across African countries, prohibited lists vary by country  (please refer to the prohibited items list below).

For overseas warehouse sellers (Fulfillment by Jumia) : If a product is not listed as prohibited in the destination country, please consult your third-party logistics provider regarding transport feasibility.

Note: Power banks are not prohibited items. However, whether they can be shipped depends on your third-party logistics provider. If you encounter issues while creating product listings for power banks, please submit a query via RAC (Raise a Claim).

2. Customs Penalties

Sellers shall be held liable for all losses incurred by Jumia due to the sale of prohibited items (including, but not limited to, customs fines, administrative seizures, and penalties). Jumia reserves the right to deduct such amounts directly from the seller’s account balance. In cases of severe or repeated violations, Jumia reserves the right to suspend the seller’s store in accordance with platform rules or local laws.

3. Violation Penalties

3.1 Policy Highlights

Any store found listing prohibited items will face strict enforcement measures as follows:

  • General Prohibited Items: If a store is found selling general prohibited items twice within the same site, the store will be suspended
  • Drugs/Prescription Medication: If a store is found selling drugs or prescription medication even once within a site, the store will be suspended.
  • Special attention: Prohibited item reviews are not limited to specific SKUs. If a prohibited item is detected, all related SKUs will be immediately delisted, and each instance will count toward the total violation tally.

3.2 Consequences and Reinstatement:

Once your store triggers the delisting conditions, you will face an extremely strict and complex re-listing process. We will conduct a comprehensive review of your store, including but not limited to:

  • Product compliance
  • Operational standards
  • Product reviews
  • Sales performance(Seller with a monthly GMV below $200 USD will not be re-listed)
  • History of violations

Any factors that do not comply with our policies may result in the rejection of your re-listing application.

Seller Notices

  •  The prohibited items list is not static and will be updated periodically. We advise sellers to check the list regularly.  (Note: If products are confirmed as prohibited upon arrival and delisted, any storage fees incurred during the handling period—from delisting until pickup or disposal—must be borne by the seller.)
  • Before checking the list, you must read these notices to understand the options and annotations.
  • The prohibited items list is based on local laws and Jumia management policies. You must strictly comply. Note that compliance with this table does not exempt you from all risks; sellers retain ultimate legal responsibility for product compliance. You are responsible for any risks resulting from policy changes or omissions (e.g., rejection at warehouse or fines from local government inspections).
  • If you have any objections to the list, please submit your explanation by RAC.
  • This list does not apply to local sellers in African markets. Please do not use this table as a reference for local seller standards.

Special reminder

For sensitive products -> including food, medicine, health supplements, medical supplies, cosmetics (skin contact), alcohol, and tobacco (including accessories) -> you must strictly verify the prohibitions for each specific site.

Do not sell sensitive products if you lack the required authorization from the local government.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.
