Product Restricted Keywords Rules

To maintain the compliant operating environment of the JUMIA platform, ensure the consumer experience, and assist you in creating and listing products more smoothly, the platform has set product restricted words based on the following rules. Please strictly abide by the relevant regulations when creating or editing products to avoid situations where products cannot be listed or are subject to other restrictions due to violations.

1. Rules for setting restricted words

1.1 Rules on counterfeit products

  • To protect brand rights and avoid legal disputes, the platform sets brand names that are prone to infringement and their related variant words as restricted words. For example, Adidas, and similar variant names such as Adeedas and Adydaz are also listed as prohibited words on the platform.
  • Do not use any brand terms that are suspected of being counterfeit, imitated, or misleading to consumers.

1.2 Rules on prohibited products

  • The platform prohibits the sale of high-risk products, such as drugs, pharmaceuticals, health products, etc., and related words (such as “codeine”) will be restricted.
  • Certain products are prohibited in specific countries, and related hot words will also be set as restricted words. For example, in Uganda, sex toys are prohibited products, and their related words will be restricted on the Uganda site.

1.3 Rules on sensitive content

  • It is strictly prohibited to use words involving sensitive content such as pornography, violence, military, religion, including local slang and colloquial expressions.
  • Please ensure that product information complies with correct values and local laws and regulations.

1.4 Rules on correct spelling

  • To ensure that keywords accurately drive traffic, use correctly spelled words and avoid incorrect or variant spellings. For example: use “vibrator” instead of “Vibratar” or “vi brator”.

1.5 Rules on advertising and misleading information

  • Advertising words: It is prohibited to use marketing status descriptions such as “promotion” and “best-selling”. For promotion, please useJUMIA’s official advertising services.
  • False or unsubstantiated information: It is prohibited to use unsubstantiated or false statements such as “free shipping” and “100% original”.
  • Misleading words: It is prohibited to use words with randomness, uncertainty, or that guide buyers’ shopping experience, such as “colors are random”, “patterns vary”, “as shown in the picture”, and “contact us”.

1.6 Prohibition of mentioning third-party platforms or services

Product information must not contain the names of third-party service providers, e-commerce platforms, or organizations unrelated to the JUMIA platform.

2. How to detect prohibited words?

2.1 Prompt when submitting products

When you create a new product or effectively modify product content and click “Submit”, the system will pop up a prompt box listing the detected prohibited words and the countries involved. Prohibited words will not prevent you from submitting SKUs in the system, but they will hinder the normal creation of your products (the normal generation of Jumia SKUs).

2.2 Product Creation Interface Prompt:

If a product involves prohibited words, the relevant site will directly display a prompt about prohibited words on the “Product Creation” interface.

3. How to handle prohibited words?

  • Delete or replace prohibited words:
    • If the prohibited words in the prompt involve the above rules, please directly delete them or replace them with other compliant words before resubmitting.
  • Pay attention to multi-part-of-speech words:
    • Some words are restricted because they have misleading meanings to local African buyers in different contexts. Please try to use more accurate and unambiguous alternative words.
  • Use of AI tools (Deepseek/GPT, etc.)
    • The platform recommends that you use AI tools to search for more accurate alternative words to improve your operational efficiency.

4. Special notes

Due to policy reasons, the list of restricted words is not publicly available.

Please understand the cultural differences between different countries and strictly abide by the platform rules to jointly maintain a healthy and fair trading environment.
